English Language Learners

The English Language Development (ELD) program at Northridge Academy High School is taught by our wonderful ELD teachers: Mr. Brown, Ms. Castellanos and Mr. East and is overseen by Bilingual Coordinator Ms. Figueroa.  Our Newcomer International Program is a great success and is lead by Ms. Campbell.  All levels of proficiency are included in the class which serves 13 languages -Spanish, Armenian and Russian being the top 3.
 
Instruction includes lessons and learning tools such as NewsELA news articles, School Scavenger Hunts, Rosetta Stone, Kami, and Read Theory.
 
Students in the English Learner program must meet four requirements for reclassification to English proficient:
1) Pass the Summative ELPAC test with a 4.
2) i-Ready Reading Diagnostic Score of no more than 2 grade levels below.
3) Make a "C" or better in the ELD class or their regular English class.
4) Parent Consultation and approval of reclassification.
